Is Your AC System on the Fritz?

When the air conditioning in your home isn't working properly, many people assume the worst. In many cases, it could be a simple fix to get your AC unit producing cool air again. Keep reading for some troubleshooting advice from the Lake of the Ozarks' best HVAC company.

Why is my Air Conditioner Not Cooling My Home?

If you notice warm air or low airflow from your AC system, chances are there's a blockage issue and/or dirt buildup.

Check the Air Filter
If your air filter is dirty or clogged, air cannot pass through the system properly. Replacing the filter with a new one could fix the problem.

Check the Condenser
Another common cause of warm air is a dirty condenser unit, the part of your AC that's outside. Buildup of dirt and debris on the condenser coils prevents your AC from properly cooling your air. Weeds or bushes could also be smothering the condenser and blocking airflow.

Other possible issues can include a faulty condenser, low refrigerant or a refrigerant leak, or a bad compressor. If you've tried cleaning your filter and condenser coils, it's a good idea to contact an air conditioning professional at the Lake of the Ozarks to diagnose the problem.

Why is my Air Conditioner Not Turning On?

If your AC system won't turn on at all, chances are it isn't receiving power or isn't receiving the right signals from your thermostat.

Check the Thermostat
Make sure your thermostat has power. Then check the settings to ensure the proper mode is selected. Then ensure the temperature setting is below the current room temperature. (If it's higher, the system won't need to kick on.)

Check the Power
If that doesn't fix the issue, check your power. See if your system's breaker has flipped or blown a fuse. You should also check the external switches located near the outdoor condenser unit and the indoor air handler to ensure they haven't been turned off accidentally.

If everything is as it should be, you'll want to contact a service technician to come find the issue.
