Why You Should Utilize Custom Ductwork in Your New Construction

Building a new home or office is an exciting time. You get the chance to hand pick things you want and need in your space – and even better you get to make it uniquely yours. As the best HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know how beneficial it can be to have custom ductwork in your new construction. Take a look below to learn more about the perks of using our custom HVAC ductwork at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Better Direct Air Flow

Your ductwork is what transports air throughout your home or office. Having ductwork that helps promote proper air flow can be a great benefit for air to travel throughout your space. Ductwork that isn’t custom made for your unique space can get squeezed into tight places and even bunch up, if it’s too tight. This can hinder the air transporting cool and warm air throughout your home or business.

Improve HVAC Efficiency

Air ducts that are pieced together can cause issues with your HVAC system. Without proper airflow available, you may be limiting the level of efficiency at which your home or business system can run. Enhance the efficiency of your air flow with custom ductwork.

High Quality Materials

When you choose custom ductwork, you can ensure the best quality products are being used in your space. Each space is unique and has different obstacles for air flow. The right metal products and other custom pieces can help ensure you are getting the best possible product for your new construction.

Regulate Temperature

With proper air flow and better air efficiency, you can expect the temperature throughout your space to be more reliable. Allow your HVAC unit to do its job and perform at an optimum level when you have customer air ducts for your unit to disperse air through.

Custom Made Fittings

Different pieces of ductwork fit together and eventually connect your air registers with your HVAC unit. Ensuring the right size pieces are hooked together is vital for the best air flow possible. Our custom ductwork can help ensure the right size of fittings and pieces are all being used together as we create your ductwork piece by piece!

Perks of Using A Smart Thermostat

Home technology is a growing industry and we’re always looking for unique ways to integrate technology in our lives to make things easier. A smart thermostat to control your HVAC system is no different. Here at Royal Heating and Air, we know how beneficial installing a smart thermostat can be. Check out the perks of adding this type of device to your cooling and heating system, below:

Review Energy Use

A smart thermostat allows you to access past energy use. You can better evaluate your use in order to make good HVAC use decisions moving forward. You may also notice a trend in your energy use and if something seems off, you may be able to catch an issue and have it looked at before your system completely goes out.

Control HVAC Remotely

You just left the house for a weekend and forgot to turn your air up to conserve energy. No need to turn around, you can remotely control your system with a smart thermostat. Easily control your entire HVAC system from your phone or other mobile devices.

Keep Tabs On Property

A smart thermostat can give you updates about your property. If your HVAC system is struggling to keep up or has stopped working entirely, you can set your mobile app to notify you if your temp gets above (or below) a certain level. This is extra handy for those second homeowners who may not know something is wrong for weeks or months at a time, without this type of smart device on their property.

Conserve Energy

Save energy when you optimize your HVAC system with a smart thermostat. You can study your energy use over time and see what habits use the least amount of energy. Over time, this can save a lot of extra energy from being spent, therefore saving you money on your monthly electric bill.

Schedule HVAC Use

Setting your system to run when you need it can help ensure your system isn’t overworked when it’s not needed. If you regularly leave the house at the same time each day, setting your air to go up a few degrees throughout the day when no one is home can save you quite a bit of money over the year.

Now that you know some of the perks of installing a smart thermostat in your home, you’re ready to start reaping the rewards of installing this kind of device in your home. If you’re looking for new ways to conserve energy, ensure your heating and cooling system is working like it should with an HVAC maintenance check at the Lake of the Ozarks. HVAC Maintenance Tips for Pet Owners

Your furry friends are an important part of your family but their fur may lead to issues with your HVAC system. We know your pets hold a special place in your heart and that’s why the best HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help offer tips for taking better care of your heating and cooling system, if you have pets. Start taking these steps to making sure your HVAC system is working like it should and keeping you and you family (pets included) cool this summer!

Change Air Filter More Often

Air filters help clean the air in your home as the particles get trapped in the filter as the air flows through. If you have pets, you may naturally have more of these particles and hair floating around your home. As a result, your air filters will likely need to be replaced more often. It can also be helpful to use a filter that specializes in filtering in homes with pets.

Remove Access to Wiring

If there is any wire exposed near your HVAC system, it needs to be addressed right away. These loose or broken wires may lead to your system not working efficiently but an also be tempting for your furry friend. A cat may think it’s a fun new toy to bat around with its paws and a dog may think it’s a new chew toy. Either way, a loose wire can be a temptation for your pets which is dangerous for them and your heating and cooling system.

Protect Outdoor Unit

Your exterior unit may seem like an exciting place for your pets to play. This unit can pose a serious danger to your pets. Their paws may get snagged or cut, if your dog or cat tries to pounce on the unit. This can also damage the unit itself, creating the need for immediate maintenance for your unit. In addition, many dogs mark their territory and that can lead to erosion of the condenser unit.

Clean Your Air Ducts

Pet hair is inevitable when you have furry friends running around. It’s best to have your air ducts cleaned on a regular basis because the air ducts are a hot spot for fur and other debris to build up. While a filter can help keep some of this pet debris from circulating around your home, not all particles are filtered out. A thorough cleaning can help reduce the chance of this kind of pet hair and dander from making its way around your home.

Groom Your Pets Outside the Home

Grooming pets can leave a more than normal level of hair and dander behind. Even if you clean up right away, a portion of the debris will get left behind and likely end up in your HVAC system over time. If possible, try to groom and brush your pets outside.

Your furry friends can present challenges for your HVAC system at the Lake of the Ozarks but with the above tips, you can help combat the damage they may cause. If you noticed an issue with your heating or cooling system, schedule an appointment with one of our HVAC repair technicians at the Lake of the Ozarks today. Royal Heating & Air is here to help keep you and your entire family cool this summer!

Extreme Weather Has an Affect on Indoor Air Quality: How You Can Improve Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality this Summer

Extreme weather conditions have been popping up all over the U.S. in the past several years.  From heatwaves to hurricanes, to floods, these all have an impact on the quality of the air in your home.  Your Lake of the Ozarks’ HVAC company is here to inform you how extreme weather affects your home’s indoor air quality and how you can counteract it.

Environmental Change and Home Comfort

A lot has changed in the last 20 years.  The global temperature has risen six-tenths of a degree and extreme weather in the United States has increased by 30 percent.  From 1992 to 2014 there have been more than 6,600 major climate, weather, and water disasters worldwide.  Homes were built to withstand the environmental conditions of the time they were constructed.  If your home is older, it may not be able to endure the current weather conditions.

In addition, your HVAC system is designed to function in a sealed indoor environment.  When you use your AC, all of the air in your home will pass through it at some point, which means that your unit has a direct impact on your home’s comfort.  The average U.S. citizen spends 90 percent of their time inside, so indoor air quality is important for everyone’s wellbeing.

At the Lake of the Ozarks, the summer months can bring warm humid air.  If you have experienced a high heat and poor air quality day this summer, you know how uncomfortable this can be, and how important your indoor air quality is for your overall wellbeing.

Indoor Air Pollutants

With the recent climate changes, indoor air quality is more important now than ever.  Pollen is one of the most common indoor air pollutants.  With the rising global temperatures comes an earlier appearance of pollen.  The warm weather shifted pollen patterns resulting in seasonal allergies being early.  This last year, spring allergy sufferers may have noticed the sniffling a good month sooner than expected.  Some areas are also experiencing weather changes that have led to conditions that favor the growth of mold and mildew - two other common indoor air pollutants.  With the warm, humid air we often experience at the Lake of the Ozarks, mold can become a major problem, as these high humidity levels can lead to mold growth; humidity levels above 60% pose a threat to your indoor air quality.  Improper air quality can result in headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, hypersensitivity, and allergies, sinus congestion, coughing and sneezing, dizziness, and nausea.

AC and Indoor Air Quality

People are using their air conditioning units more as temperatures increase during the summer.  Mold requires moisture or water to grow. Unfortunately, air conditioning units provide just the right amount of moisture for mold.  When the air is cooled, moisture is introduced, which causes humidity.  Cooling the air causes moisture in the coils of the AC unit.  If you don’t have a good filtration system, dust will build up, and wet dust will turn into mold.  It is important to have filters that remove the dust from the air and that you change them regularly.  You do not want to be breathing in those pollutants.

What Precautions Can You Take to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality?

Not only is it important for the air inside your home to be a comfortable temperature, but you also want the quality of the air to be good as well.  While some things may be out of your control, there are little things you can do around your home to improve the quality of the air that you and your family are breathing in on a daily basis.  Here are some tips to improve your indoor air quality from Royal Heating & Air:

1. Keep Your Floors Clean.
One of the easiest ways to keep pollutants out of the air in your home is to clean your floors regularly.  This will keep chemicals and allergens from settling and accumulating on the floors of your home.

2. Assess the Chemical Use in Your Home.
Consistently using chemicals inside your home is not good for your health.  While keeping your home clean is essential to improving your indoor air quality, how you complete that cleaning is also important.  Clean with natural cleaning products as much as possible.

3. Improve Your Ventilation Systems.
Poor ventilation in your home can directly impact indoor air quality.  Airflow is crucial for good indoor air quality.  You can improve your ventilation system’s efficiency by regularly changing your air filters, cleaning your ducts, and by sealing your home properly.

4. Reduce the Humidity in Your Home.
Dust mites and mold, both contributors to poor air quality, love moisture.  Controlling the humidity levels in your home is another way to improve your indoor air quality.  Consider investing in a humidifier or dehumidifier, depending on your home’s moisture levels.

5. Keep Your AC Clean.
Keeping your HVAC unit clean is another great way to improve your indoor air quality, and you're giving your system a longer life in the process.  Changing the air filter on your HVAC system monthly is one of the easiest things you can do to keep your system clean and running efficiently.
