Health Benefits Of Servicing Your HVAC Unit!

Your home should be a place of comfort, relaxation, and safety. Don't let your home become a breeding ground for indoor air pollutants by not performing regular maintenance to your HVAC unit.  There are many reasons you should hire a professional heating and cooling company at Lake of the Ozarks to perform regular maintenance to your HVAC unit.  However, in this blog, we will cover the health benefits of servicing your HVAC unit. This time of year, we spend most of our time indoors, so it is important that the atmosphere inside your home promotes good health and safety. It is time to schedule your HVAC maintenance by your premier HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Read below why scheduling your HVAC maintenance is a must.

Reduce The Risk Of Illness

Common indoor allergens can be the cause of many illnesses in the winter. Staying on top of regular maintenance to your HVAC unit can ensure cleaner air coming into your home.  Changing your filter monthly and servicing your unit, helps cut down on the number of pollutants going into your home. Increasing the air quality will help keep your respiratory issues down this winter.

Safer For The Family

Equipment breaks down over time causing leaks and inefficiencies in your HVAC unit.  Regular maintenance will find any potential issues and fix it before it becomes a problem.  Leaks can be extremely dangerous for your family.  Checking for leaks in your system can keep carbon monoxide and other dangerous gas from harming your family.  Don't take any chances this winter, make sure you get your system checked so you can have peace of mind.

Enhanced Comfort

A regularly maintained unit will keep your home comfortable and will consume less energy to do so. It doesn't matter the time of year if your home's indoor temperature isn't working properly it can make your home very uncomfortable. One of our expert HVAC technicians can locate any issues with your thermostat, leaks in ductwork, or other problems that can cause a home's temperature to not be comfortable.

Traveling For The Holidays? Here Are Reasons To Leave Your Heat On While You Are Gone!

The holidays are quickly approaching, which means traveling to visit family is a must.  If you find yourself leaving your home for days at a time, make sure your home is in order for your trip.  One way to prevent damage to your home while you are away is to leave your heat on while gone.  Turning off your heat may seem like it would save money and prevent issues from arising while you are gone, however, it is the exact opposite.  Royal Heating & Air has a few reasons why you should leave your heat on while traveling this holiday season.

Reasons To Leave Your Heat On When Traveling

Prevent Pipes From Freezing

Cooler weather is hard on the pipes in your home.  Keeping your heat on will help keep the pipes in your home running efficiently.  If your pipes become frozen with the cool winter air, and then thaw when the temperatures rise, it will cause the pipes to break.  If this happens while you are gone, your home is at risk for flooding.  This will become an extremely costly repair on your home, and can be prevented by leaving the heat on.  Leaving the heat between 50-55 degrees helps keep the home warm enough to prevent freezing pipes while you are away.

Leaving The Heat On Will Not Break The Bank

Saving money around the holidays is a goal for many people. One common way to save money is by lowering your heating costs.  When traveling, you may think turning off your heat will save you a ton of money.  However, turning off your heat completely will make your unit work harder when you turn it back on.  It will take more energy and money to get the house back at a comfortable temperature than if you would have just lowered while you are away.  The lower temperature will keep your unit from turning on constantly, which will keep costs low.  It will also make it easier to get the home back to a comfortable temperature once you return.

Prevent Appliances From Freezing

Many appliances use water, from your washing machine, refrigerator to your dishwasher. If you choose to turn off your heat when traveling this winter, your appliances may be at risk.  In the winter the temperatures can quickly dip below freezing becoming hard on water lines.  The water lines in these units may freeze.  Keeping your heat on will ensure a steady heat source to protect your appliances while you are away. Keeping your heat on a steady lower temperature will keep your costs down all while saving you from a potential headache when you return.  Appliances are costly, so save money this holiday season by leaving your heat set to a low temperature to make sure your appliances are running when you return home.

Low Cost Ways To Prepare Your Home For Winter!

The cool winter air can be hard on your budget, and may cause your home not to be as cozy as you would like. Turning the heat up can become costly quick, but Royal Heating & Air has a few tips on low-cost ways to prepare your home for winter. Before the cold air sets in permanently for the winter, and we all start blasting the heater, get your home ready with these tips.

Install Weather Stripping

The first step in fighting the cold weather is to make sure the warm air stays in and you keep the cold air out. Check for drafts near doors and windows and seal all necessary spots with weather stripping. You can find weather stripping from less than $20 per package at any local home store.

Close The Fireplace Damper

Fireplaces are a great heat source in the winter.  Make sure you close your fireplace damper when your fireplace is not in use.  After the fireplace as cooled completely, closing the damper will ensure air doesn't escape out the chimney.

Insulate Your Attic

Insulation is pretty standard in today's homes. However, if your home is older, it is a good idea to check to make sure the insulation is still good. Over time, insulation will get packed down. When that happens, the insulation won't work as efficiently. Make sure your home is sealed up by making sure there is enough insulation.

Use Your Curtains

Curtains and blinds aren't just for decoration. Keep your blinds and curtains closed to conserve the heat in your home.  Your window coverings will help keep the cool air out and warm air in.  On sunny winter days, you can open your window coverings to allow the sun to naturally heat your home.

Close Doors and Vents In Unused Rooms

Close vents and doors to any rooms in your home that are not used.  This is great for storage rooms or extra guests bedrooms.  It will cause the heat to travel to the rooms you use, and save you money overall.  If you need the room, just open everything back up for the time in use, and close everything after.

Use A Programmable Thermostat

Using a programmable thermostat is a great way to save money this winter.  You can automatically lower or raise the temperature in your home.  It is recommended to lower your temperature while you are away during the day.  Your heat won't turn on as much saving you money in the long run. Then, it can be set automatically to raise the temperature during the hours you are home.

Replace Furnace Filters Monthly

It is recommended to change your air filter monthly, because a dirty air filter can cause your unit to run inefficiently. Dirty air filters can be a cause for cool air blowing in your home.  It will end up costing you more money in the long run.  This winter save money by changing your filter on a regular basis.

Reverse Ceiling Fan Direction

Ceiling fans going clockwise pushes air down and creates a draft. However, in the winter, they can also help make your home feel warmer. When the ceiling fan goes clockwise, it will push the cool air up and mix with the rising heat. Once the air mixes, it will spread out and down making the room feel warmer.

Keep Warm With Royal Heating & Air

Royal Heating & Air will ensure that your home is safe and cozy this winter. The tips above are a great way to get ready for the colder weather without breaking the bank.  From preventative maintenance to installations, the best HVAC company in Lake of the Ozarks is here to help you.
