How Your HVAC System Can Help Reduce Allergy Suffering

Over 26 million Americans have asthma, and the most common type of asthma is triggered by allergies. What if there was a way to reduce those allergens indoors, where we spend the majority of our time?  Well, there is!  Here are some ways you can use your HVAC system can do just that.

1) Clean air ducts.

Since we don’t really see them, it is easy to forget about them.  But your ductwork can accumulate a build up of dirt, dust and allergens that can be spread around your entire home as your HVAC circulates the air.  Having your ducts checked and cleaned if they are dirty can reduce a significant number of particles in the air that could be affecting your allergies.

2) Clean filter.

For the same reason, having the right filter and replacing it regularly can make a huge improvement in your indoor air quality.  The same filter that will block allergens, can instead spread them throughout your entire home, if your filter gets built up and clogged with contaminants.  Keeping a clean filter not only helps with indoor air quality, it will also help your HVAC work more efficiently and extend the life of your system.

There are even high-efficiency filters such as HEPA filters which filter out more particles.  However, these more powerful filters can create more pressure in your system which can cause damage if your HVAC system is not suited for high-efficiency filters.  So, it is very important to ask your HVAC service technician at the Lake of the Ozarks if your system can handle it.

3) Whole-home Air Purifier.

A whole-home air purifier is a unit that is installed within your HVAC systems air handler, and it is capable of removing 99.97% of pollution and contaminants from the air.  It will do so with much more efficiency than your HVAC system alone.  A whole-home air purifier captures airborne particles from return air before they enter your HVAC system and can also extend the life of your HVAC system.

4) UV Light.

For another layer of protection, UV lights are a wonderful option for reducing pollutants and killing airborne allergens travelling through your return air vents.  There are basically 2 types.  One is installed above the evaporator and prevents the growth of microbes on the coil and drain pan.  The other is installed in the return air ducts and sterilizes the air as it passes through.  Your HVAC technician at the Lake of the Ozarks can advise you on the differences and help you decide which one is best for you.

5) Whole-home dehumidifier.

We have all heard it, “it’s not the heat it’s the humidity” in Missouri.  If the humidity in your home is too high, it can negatively impact your home and its indoor air quality.  With a whole-home dehumidifier you will be able to set and control the moisture level in your home and keep it at the optimal level to reduce airborne contaminants and the potential of mold and mildew growth.  A reputable HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks can help you with choosing and installing one in your home.

If you are interested in using your HVAC system to reduce your allergy suffering, Royal Heating and Air is here to help.  We are happy to walk you through all your options and help you make the best decision for you and your home.  It is just one more way that Royal Heating and Air really is the King of Comfort.

Your Fall HVAC Maintenance Checklist

At Royal Heating and Air, we know your HVAC system is one of the more expensive systems in your home. Just like with your car, proactive maintenance is critical to keeping your system running efficiently and reliably. So today, we wanted to talk to you about the important benefits of a fall maintenance check.

Efficiency and Lifespan

As parts wear and dust accumulates on your components, your furnace, and air conditioner can become less efficient and have to work harder. Over time this can slowly increase your energy bill and reduce the lifespan of your system.  In fact, consistent maintenance can lengthen the working life of your system up to 48% and reduce loss of efficiency up to 15%.

Prevent Bigger Problems

Regular preventative maintenance can not only increase efficiency and lifespan, it also helps you discover and repair things before they lead to bigger problems, more expensive repairs, and potential outages.  If you have not had your furnace serviced yet this year, we have HVAC technicians at the Lake of the Ozarks ready to help

What It Entails

When one of our technicians arrives for a fall HVAC maintenance check at the Lake of the Ozarks, the first thing that will happen is your system and its components will be inspected.  If parts are dirty, they will be cleaned, if there are signs of wear or damage, those will be addressed.  Moving parts will be lubricated and if the filter is clogged it will be replaced. The air handler will be checked out to make sure it is in good working condition and cleaned if needed. Airflow efficiency will be measured and your thermostat will also be tested and calibrated if necessary.  In addition, the technician will monitor the system while it is on to make sure it is functioning properly and not using more power than it should be.  If you have a gas furnace the burner will be cleaned and the heat exchanger checked for signs of cracking or corrosion, too.  Any issue that is found will be brought to your attention and discussed along with repair solutions.

While it is easy not to think about your heating and cooling system … it is no fun if it stops working.  It is far better (and less expensive) to fix a small problem before it becomes huge issue or leaves you without service in the coldest season. At Royal Heating and Air, we love to help people get the most out of their HVAC systems and we know how much preventative maintenance can help. We work hard to make HVAC preventative maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks convenient for you and even have a program where you can sign up for regular maintenance checks and not even have to think about it.  We let you know when it is time, and you get to relax, and rest assured knowing your HVAC system is in tip-top shape.  Even though you are still using your air conditioner, you will want to get on the schedule now for your fall maintenance check.  Make sure all is good when the cold winter weather is upon us, give Royal Heating and Air a call today!

My experience with Royal Heating and Air was so excellent. My AC went out (we knew it was coming along with the furnace). These guys were out the same day to diagnose the issues and had the entire job completed the next day. They were so nice to my kids, which is a big plus as a mom of 4. Not to mention how amazing my furnace system looked when they were finished.

Ways To Keep Your Home Cool When The AC Broke

Air conditioners are susceptible to issues after being used all summer long. Royal Heat and Air would love to come and resolve this for you! But in the meantime, there are a few other ways that can keep your home cool during the wait. Read on to learn how to keep your home cool when you can not rely on your air conditioning.

Keep The Blinds Closed

This may seem like such a minor deal here but 30% of unwanted heat comes through your windows! Using your shades and curtains to block the sun rays can save you money on bills while maintaining a cool indoor temperature.

Doors

Be cautious what doors are kept open or closed. Closed doors to rooms you do not use often. Take advantage of those cool nights allowing cool air to naturally flow through the house.

Use The Fan Hack

Fill a mixing bowl with ice or an icepack, and position it at an angle in front of a fan so the air whips off the ice in a chilled state.

Change The Sheets

It is time for a seasonal sheet switch! Change the sheets from winter to summer is a great way to keep cool while you sleep! It also freshens up a room, and nothing is better than sleeping in a freshly made bed.

Turn On Bathrooms Fans

It is best to turn on your bathroom fan, when showering, to quickly pull the hot steamy air out of the house before it sneaks into your home.

Window Hack

Create a cooling pressure current! You can do this if you open the top section of the windows on the downwind of your house and open the bottom section of windows on the upwind side.
You should also consider using a box fan to push hot air out of your home!

Grill

Cooking indoors will naturally crank the heat up inside! This is another reason grilling is more popular in the summer! Try to grill outdoors and all of the heat is already outside, plus you can’t beat the smell of food on the grill!

Invest In Heat Reducing Film

Like we stated before, roughly 30% of ambient heat comes into your home through the windows! Apply a reflective, heat-reducing window film that will help regulate the temperature in your home.

There is nothing worse than a broken AC in the midst of summer! We can not always plan for this to happen so incorporating these other practices, can keep your home cool without even needing your air conditioner!

Keep COOL and have a ROYAL summer!
