Common Reasons Why Your Furnace Isn't Working

There are a few reasons your furnace could be having issues.  Your unit may not turn on at all to having cool air blow instead of warm. Regardless of the issue, you need to fix the problem and fast.  Check out the list below of some common reasons why your furnace may not be working and how you can fix it.  If you find yourself with furnace issues and you can't fix it, you can always call one of our experienced professionals.

Cool Air Is Blowing Out Instead Of Warm
If your unit has a pilot light, make sure the light hasn't blown out. If your pilot light is on, and your furnace runs on gas, make sure you have plenty of gas in your tank.  If your unit doesn't run on gas or you have eliminated those as a factor, it is time to check the air filter. It is recommended to change your air filter monthly because a dirty air filter can cause your unit to not run efficiently. Dirty air filters can be a cause for cool air blowing.  If those tips haven't fixed the problem, it is time to call in the professionals.  We can look at your unit to make sure there aren't any clogs or issues in your overall system.

Heat Won't Turn On

You went to turn your furnace on and the unit doesn't run.  First, look at your thermostat and make sure it is on and the temperature is set higher than the room temperature. If that all looks good, check to make sure your unit is turned on.  Look beside or above your furnace for a switch. Make sure it is turned to the on position. If the switch is on but the unit still isn't working, check your breaker panel.  Make sure all of your breakers are turned. If you have done all these steps and your furnace still won't turn on, it is time to give us a call.  There are other reasons it won't turn on from dirty blower motors to other maintenance issues that happen when units are not serviced regularly.

Furnace Shuts Off

If your unit runs fine and blows warm air but you notice it shuts off often, you could have a problem.  Especially, if the unit shuts off before the house warms up.  Your unit could have a feature on it that automatically shuts off as a safety feature. If your unit is shutting off then your unit could be overheating.  This issue is one you will need to give a professional a call.  We will need to come and troubleshoot the system to get it working.
