FAQs About Variable Speed Technology

Royal Heating & Air is the best HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks. We use advanced tools and technology to help keep your systems running efficiently. One of those advanced methods is Variable Speed Technology. Due to industry-wide requirements, all new HVAC systems use some form of variable speed technology, but some units use a more advanced version of the technology than others. Read on to learn more about how variable speed technology works and the advanced options you can find in some systems. Call Royal Heating & Air to find out more about the systems we can install for you!

How Does it Work?

Variable Speed Technology allows HVAC systems to adapt to the home's temperature needs and adjust the output accordingly. Without variable speed technology, an HVAC system runs either at 100% on, or is off completely. This can use a lot of energy because your system constantly has to rev up to reach temperature after it has been off. The variable speed technology's purpose is to function at multiple capacity levels. This technology may be able to help lower your utility bills because it uses less electricity than a conventional motor.

On very hot summer days, the compressor can operate at 100% capacity to cool your house down to the desired temperature. When the temperature is milder, it can operate at a lower capacity (as low as 30%) to keep your home comfortable while saving on energy.

Variable speed technology is also very helpful in the winter, as it can help prevent the feeling that cold air is blowing through the vents. This works because the varying speeds allow it to control the amount of air blowing through the vents and into your home.

Energy Efficiency

When your HVAC system turns on from being shut off for a while, it sucks a lot of energy to reheat your home to the proper temperature. Variable speed technology allows your system to preserve energy by running continuously. The Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy reports that a motor that uses variable speed technology may use as much as 75% less power than a base model motor. Variable Speed Advances

More advanced systems can sense the amount of air that is moving through the system and adjust to compensate for any inadequacies. For example, if you have a dirty air filter, if the air ducts are too small or too large, or if there are other issues within your HVAC, the variable speed technology can adjust the amount of airflow to keep your home feeling comfortable regardless of what issues your HVAC system may be experiencing.

6 Benefits of Great Air Conditioning

During the warmer months when we are constantly running our air conditioning, we don’t really think about whether our AC unit is running as it should be. Believe it or not, there’s a difference between good air conditioning and great air conditioning. The best heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks, knows that there are many benefits to having a great air conditioning system that is frequently serviced and up to date. Here at Royal Heating and Air, we have put together a list of a few benefits that go along with having a great air conditioning unit and why it’s a worthwhile investment.

1. Better air quality

Your air conditioner circulates and helps to filter the air, removing things like pollutants and mold from the air. This is especially important for people who suffer from allergies and asthma, because it helps to minimize the triggers that can cause an attack. You have to keep your system clean and change your filters regularly, otherwise your AC unit can actually contribute to indoor air pollution.

2. Improved work efficiency

There is almost nothing as bad as mental sluggishness that comes with a hot day. There’s even scientific evidence about this! According to an article in Scientific American, we aren’t able to think and reason as well during the heat because our body is using more energy to try to cool itself down. When offices and work spaces are cooler and have air conditioning, people are able to work better.

3. Fewer insects

The filters in an air conditioner can help keep out insects and are generally more effective than a screen in an open window. Besides being annoying, insects can also be a burden to people with allergies. A great air conditioning system can also help keep indoor pets flea and tick free.

4. Better sleep

Your core body temperature is a critical factor in getting to sleep and staying asleep throughout the night. A too hot (or even too cold) room can interfere with natural temperature regulation which doctors say functions between 65 and 75 degrees.

5. Protects furniture

Heat, and especially humidity, can be problematic for furniture of all kinds. Wood gains and loses moisture with the air around it, which over time can lead to warping. Leather also absorbs moisture which could eventually lead expensive leather to rot. It’s not just wood and leather. Any fabric is susceptible to the mold that breeds rampantly in environments that are damp.

6. Better security

Having open windows in the fall is great for letting that cool breeze in. However, having open windows can be a safety issue. Screen or no screen, having an unsecure window or door simply isn’t safe. Not only do you want to keep bugs and critters out, you also want to keep any unwanted guests out.

Here at Royal Heating and Air, we are passionate about keeping you and your family cool. 8 Benefits Of An Energy Efficient HVAC System

The average American household spends over $2,000 a year on energy costs according to the United States Department of Energy. More than half of the energy used in the typical home goes to heating and cooling. That's why it's important to make the right decisions when it comes to your home's HVAC system. It can not only make a difference in your utility bills, but it could also make a difference in your home's overall comfort. The best heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks takes a look at the 8 benefits of an energy efficient system.

1. Reduce Carbon Footprint

Not only is efficient air conditioning better for your wallet, it's also better for the environment. Old AC units produce greenhouse gasses that are contributing to global warming. By switching to an energy-efficient system, you can do your part to help the planet.

2. Lower Energy Bills

Inefficient air conditioning units come with their own set of costs like expensive repairs and unreliable cooling. AC units that are certified for efficiency provide the reliable relief you need in the summer months and it won't break the bank. AC units that are Energy Star certified can help lower your monthly heating and cooling bill.

3. Climate Control

When you invest in an energy-efficient HVAC system, you can have more control over the temperature in your home. These newer systems can be equipped with a programmable thermostat, which can help control cooling and heating costs and improve your home comfort.

4. Quiet Cooling

Energy efficient systems are designed to make less noise. The high-tech sound absorbing materials in the modern systems make operating noise nearly non-existent compared to older models. Your energy efficient HVAC system will be felt, but not heard.

5. Reduce Waste

Energy efficient systems can be optimized for maximum control, so you don't have to waste energy on rooms you never use. By only using your heating and cooling in rooms where temperature control is needed, you can maximize your savings.

6. Cleaner Air

With indoor air contamination on the rise, indoor air quality is more important than ever before. With an energy-efficient HVAC system, it can eliminate contaminants like bacteria, mold, pollutants and viruses.
7. Increase Resale Value

When looking for homes, prospective buyers will look at the quality of the home's current HVAC system and it's operating costs. Installing a high-efficiency heating and cooling system doesn't just benefit you, but it could also benefit the future owners of your home if you ever do decide to sell.

8. Longer Operating Life

As high-efficiency systems minimize on-and-off cycling, they typically require less extreme repairs (if they are properly maintained) and will generally last longer than lower efficiency systems.

Spring is just around the corner and it's the best time to schedule installation and maintenance of your HVAC system before the summer season of emergency cooling repairs begins. Protect your home for the summer and save money along the way. Contact Royal Heating & Air today at 573-480-4313 to discuss which energy-efficient system could be the right fit for you home.
