Happy Thanksgiving - We Are Thankful for YOU!

Happy Thanksgiving week! Today we are talking about what Royal Heating & Air is thankful for as a company. We have been in business for 10 years and we love serving our community and hearing from you all. Keep reading to learn more about why we're grateful, how many things there are to be grateful for at the Lake, and how much we love our customers... That's right, you!

Being at the Lake

One of the things we're thankful for is our home - the Lake of the Ozarks. This community is incredibly strong, giving, and fun! The #LakeLife means so much more to us than enjoying being out on the water. To us, it means community that can count on each other... The ability to grow as a business and develop as a leader with multiple training, educational, and networking opportunities... And SO much more. We love being the your local HVAC company at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Our Health & Safety Improving Services

We are an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning) company, but we are also so much more than that. We are grateful for our talented technicians that can bring the additional services you need in your home for a safer, more healthy lifestyle. Just a few of those services include a whole-home humidifier (to keep your airways healthy and your valuables from drying out and cracking), ultraviolet light systems (added to your ductwork to kill bacteria for better indoor air quality), and even custom sheet metal fabrication (to prevent air leaks and improve the efficiency of your home). We are here for you and love going above and beyond for our customers!

YOU!

Speaking of our customers, we are most incredibly grateful for you. Without you, we wouldn't be as successful as we are, and we appreciate your business so much! When we hear things like the reviews below from our customers, we are grateful beyond words. Thank you!!

I absolutely recommend Royal Heating & Air! Our heater sounded like shoes in the dryer when we turned it on. On Monday they came and figured out the issue within minutes and ordered the part on-site. Had the new part installed on Wednesday! Fast service and awesome staff. We will definitely use them again!
~ Addison L.

An honest, caring company that is not only prompt and professional but gives back to the community as well!
~ Heather D.

Royal gave me a fair price with excellent service time and work quality. It’s hard to find honest & dependable companies at the lake, this is one of the few.
~ Cody S.

Giving Back

We are also grateful for the fact that we are able to give back to the community where we live and work. To say "thank you", to help those in need, to be involved... Our team at Royal Heating & Air truly cares. We sponsor several local events and volunteer with organizations around the Lake, including Great Bagnell Dam Duck Drop, Christmas for Kids, YPL Dodgeball Tournament benefitting local charities, Annual Eagle Days, Kiwanis, and more.

Common Environmental Allergies & How to Fight Them

There are a lot of environmental allergies that can affect your health this time of year. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you are especially prone to bad symptoms of inhaling the particles of these common allergies. But, even people without seasonal allergies can experience more difficulty breathing and fighting off infection when they're regularly exposed to allergens and harmful materials. Royal Heating & Air is here to help you enjoy a comfortable home with clean air. So today we're diving into some of the most common allergies and how to keep them out of your house for cleaner indoor air and easier breathing.

Dust & Dust Mites

Every home has some amount of dust that will accumulate on the surface of everything in the house. Dust is primarily made up of dead skin cells, hair, clothing fibers, dirt, dead bugs, and other particles. The other things you have to worry about with dust are the dust mites that will be there too. Dust mites are microscopic pests (smaller than a period mark!) that eat dead skin cells, which is why they are found wherever there is dust. The droppings of dust mites are what actually cause allergic reactions in people. As the air in your home circulates, you breathe in the dust, dust mites, and dust mite droppings all together. The allergic reaction from breathing this in can include inflamed airways, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and more.

One of the best ways to prevent this allergy from aggravating your airways is to keep your house as dust-free as possible. Be sure to regularly change out your air filter so it doesn't get overloaded. If the air filter is too full, it won't be able to properly filter out the dust from the air in your home. Some filters need to be changed once a month and others can last for 6 months at a time. Be sure to check and see how often your is supposed to be replaced.

Pet Dander

Another common household allergen if you have pets is pet dander. When people are allergic to cats or dogs, what they are actually allergic to is the dander of cats or dogs. Dander can be defined as skin flakes from an animal's fur or hair. If someone living in your home has a pet allergy, then the best solution is to not have pets in the house or to adopt pets that don't trigger their allergies. If you don't have anyone living in your home with allergies, then there are still things you can do to help prevent or reduce an allergic response for your guests that might have allergies.

To reduce dander, start at the source! Healthy skin and hair for your pets can help reduce the amount of dander sloughing off around the house. Regularly vacuuming and cleaning your floors (and furniture if pets are allowed on the couches) can help a lot with reducing the amount of dander circulating in the air in your home. You can also check the type of air filter you're using and upgrade to a kind that is rated to filter out pet dander for improved indoor air quality. It's also important to have regular HVAC maintenance checks to make sure your airflow is optimal. Air that isn't moving isn't getting filtered, so the better the airflow, the cleaner the air!

Mold & Mildew

Mold and mildew are very similar but still have a few distinct differences. Mold is a microscopic fungus that grows on organic matter. It usually looks raised and can appear as green, red, blue, or black. Mold also looks slimy or fuzzy. Mildew is a specific kind of mold that grows where there is a lot of moisture. It typically looks flat, white or gray, and powdery.

To prevent mold and mildew growth, it's important to control the amount of moisture and humidity in your home. Instead of having a humidifier that runs all the time, consider getting a whole home humidifier that can sense the amount of humidity in the air and turn on or off depending on what the house needs. If you have a lot of humidity in the summer, you may even want to invest in a dehumidifier to help reduce the humidity in high moisture areas like the bathroom. One of the best ways to prevent mold and other pathogens from growing in your home is to have Royal Heating & Air install a UV light system in your HVAC. UV light can kill mold, bacteria, and viruses, giving you clean and fresh indoor air!

Best HVAC Company at the Lake

Royal Heating & Air is the best heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we are here for you! We can come check your HVAC system to make sure everything is working properly, install a whole home humidifier, and add a UV light system to your HVAC to help give you a comfortable and clean home. Simple Mistakes at the Lake that Could Ruin the Weekend!

Royal Heating & Air has been at the Lake of the Ozarks for nearly 11 years, installing and servicing your HVAC systems with pride and joy! As lake locals, we have a few tips to share to make sure you don't make a mistake that ruins your weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks. Keep reading to learn all about it!

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a super important thing to remember when you're visiting the Lake of the Ozarks. Even if you're not swimming in the lake, you're probably going to be spending a good amount of time outside in the sun. Make sure to choose a good sunscreen that is resistant to coming off from sweat or water and has an SPF of at least 50. (Pro Tip: Do not use banana-scented sunscreen if you're going to be on a boat. The smell will stick to the seats and attract critters like racoons that will tear up the seats looking for some tasty bananas!)

Water

Don't forget to make sure you have enough water when you're at the Lake of the Ozarks. It can get pretty hot and humid in the summer, and you're going to need the extra hydration. Traveling is already dehydrating to your body. When you add hot weather, direct sun, alcohol, saltier food, swimming, and maybe even hiking to that, you could end up getting pretty dehydrated. You may even experience overheating if you're not careful. A great way to make sure you have water is to pack your food coolers with frozen bottles of water. That way your lunch and snacks stay cold, and you'll have cold water to drink later in the day when your water bottle runs dry.

Hats & Sunglasses... More Than One!

Countless people lose their hats and their sunglasses when they're out on the water. Maybe the wind catches them just right or you accidentally drop them overboard. Whatever the reason, you're going to want to have some backups to protect your eyes from the sun glaring off the water. Pack a couple of cheap extras just in case!

Boater's License

In that state of Missouri, if you were born after January 1st of 1984, you must have a boater's license to operate watercraft. If you don't already have yours, then you can study for and take the test with Missouri's Official Online Boating Safety Course. Be sure to follow the rules of he water and stay safe out there!

Explore!

Sometimes it's easy to get stuck in a rut, always going the same places and ordering the same things. At the Lake of the Ozarks, there are so many things to explore! Don't get bored doing and eating the same things over and over. Check out the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau website to find new activities and places to explore!

Get the Lake House Ready

One big mistake a lot of people make is not getting their lake house ready for summer. They come down ready to have a great time only to find that the house needs a lot of attention first. That's precious lake time being wasted! Instead of using part of your weekend to clean and prep the house, get experts to come take care of it for you NOW before the season even starts! You can find great cleaning companies, pest control services, and lawncare companies to make sure the house is all tidied up and clean before you even get there. Don't forget to schedule your favorite HVAC technicians! Royal Heating & Air can come out and inspect your HVAC system to make sure everything is working the way it should so you can enjoy a worry-free summer at the lake. Call today!

How Much Do Windows Affect Home Comfort?

Windows serve a lot of important purposes in your home... natural light, fresh air flow, fire escape, etc. They can also cause a few issues that are less beneficial like temperature fluctuation. Royal Heating and Air cares about you and your family, and we work hard to make sure your HVAC system is working the way it should so your home is as safe and comfortable as possible. Keep reading to learn how windows affect the comfort and safety of your home, and how to make the most of your windows!

Natural Light

One of the biggest benefits of having a lot of windows in your home is how much beautiful natural light they let in. Natural light has been shown to be better for you than artificial light (incandescent, fluorescent, etc.) It can actually help boost your mood. That's why a lot of people tend to feel more sadness in the winter when there's very little sunlight. It's actually called Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. Open up the curtains in the morning to let sunlight into your house and make the most of the mental health benefits of natural light.

Fresh Air Flow

Being able to open up the house is another huge plus to windows. (Read all about the pros and cons of opening up the house in our blog post "It's So Nice Out! Should I Open My Windows?") When the air in your house gets stale, you can open up all the windows and let the cross-breeze freshen up the house. Or, if you leave the pan on the stovetop a little too long, you can crack a window to get the smoke out. Opening windows in the spring and fall months can actually be a great benefit to your home's indoor air quality and energy savings if you do it right.

Safety Concerns - Good & Bad

Another important aspect of windows is their level of safety. Most of the time, in order to be counted as a bedroom in a floorplan, a room MUST have at least one window. This is a safety precaution in case there is a fire - The occupant of that bedroom needs to have a way to escape. Windows can also add a little bit of a safety concern. If you forget to lock them, they are an easy way for intruders to get into your house. It's also easier for intruders to break a window than it is to break down a door. Installing a good home security system with alarms and/or cameras can help give you the peace of mind you need.

Temperature Fluctuation

One con to windows is that they can tend to "leak" temperature. That's why sitting next to a window feels so cold in the winter and so hot in the summer. If you don't have energy efficient windows, then they are likely allowing the air inside your home to escape. This causes your thermostat to kick in more often and costs you more energy. If you can't get energy efficient windows right away, it's important to at least make sure the seals on your windows are in good condition. A bad seal can leak a lot of air and make it harder for your HVAC to keep the house at the right temperature.

Your Home Comfort

At Royal Heating and Air, we are passionate about making sure your home is comfortable year-round! Give us a call to schedule a Home Comfort Check and one of our experienced technicians will come out to your house and make sure your HVAC system is running efficiently. We can also help with whole home humidifiers, HVAC UV light systems, programmable thermostats, and more. We can't wait to serve you!

It’s So Nice Out! Should I Open My Windows?

Spring will officially be sprung this weekend! The Spring Equinox for our part of the world is this Sunday, March 20th at 10:33 a.m. And, if you're like a lot of people, you can't wait until the warm weather is here for good. Winter can be a dreary time, full of grey skies, freezing temperatures, and feeling cooped up inside all the time. When spring rolls around, you may want to throw open the windows and let all the fresh air and sunshine into the house. Goodbye, winter! But... Is that actually a good idea? As the best heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks, Royal Heating & Air is here to help answer that question! Keep reading to find out the pros and cons of opening up your house this spring.

Breath of Fresh Air

Over the winter, your house stayed sealed up to keep out the cold. You wouldn't dream of leaving the windows open when it's below freezing outside! But, even though that helped keep your house warm, it also kept the air pretty stale. Indoor air quality can be a huge concern for your overall health and wellbeing. If you're breathing stagnant, recycled air, you are also likely breathing in bacteria, dust, and contaminants that got picked up from your air ducts or from other surfaces in your house.

Opening up the windows and getting fresh airflow into the house can be a literal breath of fresh air. Fresh, clean air from outside can help get rid of stuffy smells and increase the amount of oxygen in your home (plants give off oxygen, people breathe out carbon dioxide). Both of these benefits can help you breathe easier, experience less brain fog, and feel a boost in your mood.

On the other hand...

The fresh air you're letting into your home may also carry some unwanted materials like pollen, dirt, gravel dust, smoke, and others. If you're thinking about opening your house up for some fresh air, you may want to consider the environment outside first. Check the weather for the pollen count - Is it abnormally high, or relatively low? Step outside and take a deep breath - Is someone burning leaves nearby? Is there construction going on? How windy is it? If you take into account what the weather and surrounding conditions are, then you can make a more informed decision about whether or not it's a good idea to open the windows today.

An alternative way to keep the air in your home fresh and clean would be to install an HVAC Ultraviolet Light System in your ductwork. The UV light from these systems kills bacteria, viruses, mold, and other harmful materials so you can enjoy the best possible indoor air quality at home. Call Royal Heating & Air to learn more! 573-480-4313 (Plus, don't forget to change those filters!)

Save on Energy

Springtime is known for it's beauty and pleasant temperatures. Why not take advantage of that? When the weather is between a comfortable 65-72 degrees Fahrenheit, it might seem silly to have the air conditioner set on 71 or the heater set on 67. Your heat and air will be regularly turning on to maintain that exact temperature, when it's already right around that temperature outside. Instead, you can turn off the thermostat and just open up the house to enjoy some cool, fresh spring air! (Note: If there's not a breeze, you may want to turn on a small fan to get the air moving so you can make the most of the fresh air.)

On the other hand...

If you're turning the air conditioner (or heater) off and on repeatedly, then you could actually be wasting more energy as your system tries to get the house back to your specific desired temperature over and over. If you decide to open up the house, try to keep it open for most of the day and don't ask your HVAC system to try and catch up in the middle of the day when it's warmest. Make the choice and stick with it instead of opening and closing the windows multiple times throughout the day.

Best HVAC Company at the Lake

Spring is a wonderful season full of fresh air, new growth, and beauty. You can make the most of it by following the principles above and getting some fresh air moving through your house just in time for spring cleaning. Now is also the perfect time to have your air conditioning unit checked by a professional. Give Royal Heating & Air a call and we'll come out to make sure your system is working and ready to take on  spring and summer this year.
